Week 12

Final week of the second grading period.

World History:
Last Thursday we started the project on The Vikings. The students have covered a brief history of the Vikings, taken a test over this information, written their name in Norse Runes, composed a Scaldic Poem and written it in runes, as a group have written a message on a rune stone, and then translated all the different groups messages on their rune stones. Quite a lot over three class periods. Left to do is artwork, making jewelry and building a model viking ship. Next week we will prepare for an Althing where students will conduct Norse trials, act out a saga, and feast a dead chieftan while dressed like Vikings. Jewelry and the model ship will be due the day of the Althing, which is tentatively set for November 12 and 13. Election day and Veterans day are making the project go longer than expected. Remember that for the Althing all food brought must be consistent with Viking (pre-Columbus) food.
